Find your Stillpoint

The Still Point in CranioSacral Therapy is that moment when the cranial rhythm pauses, the nervous system drops into deep reset, and the body's own intelligence takes over.

What is the still point?

The Still Point is a natural pause in the body's cranial rhythm, the subtle movement of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain and spinal cord. In this moment of stillness, the nervous system shifts into a state of deep rest and recalibration.

Rather than something that is created by the practitioner, the Still Point is a process that emerges when the body feels safe enough to let go of tension and settle into a more balanced state.

The Still Point is the body's deepest reset mechanism, allowing the nervous system to release what it has been holding.

Why does it matter?

Most people spend much of their lives in a state of low-level stress, constantly adapting to physical, emotional, and environmental demands. The Still Point offers the body an opportunity to pause that cycle.

When the nervous system accesses this depth of rest, breathing can deepen, tension may soften, sleep can improve, and the body's capacity to regulate stress often increases. Many people describe a sense of ease, clarity, and feeling more at home in their body.

Many people seek CranioSacral Therapy when they recognise that their body has been operating in survival mode for an extended period and needs support returning to a more regulated state.

The Still Point can be particularly relevant for people experiencing:

  • Persistent neck, jaw, or shoulder tension
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Anxiety, overwhelm, or hypervigilance
  • Recovery from physical or emotional trauma

  • Digestive dysfunction
  • Chronic stress or burnout
  • Poor sleep or ongoing fatigue
  • A sense of feeling "stuck" despite trying other approaches

How does Craniosacral Therapy Support it?

CranioSacral Therapy works with the body's subtle rhythms through gentle contact at areas such as the head, spine, and sacrum. Rather than manipulating tissue, the practitioner listens for patterns of restriction and supports the body toward greater ease and balance.

As tension releases and the cranial rhythm becomes more fluid, the conditions for a Still Point can naturally emerge. During this period of stillness, the nervous system has an opportunity to reorganise and reset before returning to a more settled baseline.

Most people spend their days responding. The Still Point offers something different: an opportunity for the nervous system to stop managing, stop bracing, and simply rest.
